My introduction of fashion came to me at an early age when my mom told me I couldn't wear my grandma's old, bedazzled, 1950's clip on earrings to school. I was only in the fifth grade then and knew the pleasure I got from playing with grandma's vintage jewelry, colorful paten purses, and 60's era heels was more so than other kids my age. The other kids wanted to dress up as the typical fairy princess', but my innate sense of fashion was something more–I wanted to be fabulous.
As a teenager my sense of fashion escalated– I loved dressing all my girlfriends for school formal dances and doing their hair and make-up before events. I had no idea then that there was such an occupation as a Personal Stylist so I took a traditional "job" and became an account executive sales person with several large corporations. After six or so years of being an overly stressed sales person, I transitioned to a position at a baby's clothing company where I managed the Marketing Dept. Part of my new job was attending tradeshows in NYC and LA. I would always find myself wandering into the fashion districts to see what was new and fresh in fashion. While visiting boutiques off the beaten path, I would find myself engaged in lengthy conversations with the owners of the boutiques–this was my first epiphany moment and I realize I loved the intimacy fashion brings to people’s lives.
I have always been involved in side projects which keeps me surrounded by creative circles of people from fashion magazines publications to volunteering for the Arts to Film Festivals. At one point, I even had small success when I started a little girls clothing line where all my free time went to further my education with classes on sewing, design and merchandising.
In 2005 I left the Corporate World where I would take the plunge and a substantial pay cut to fulfill my desire and immerse myself in fashion by working as a sales person in women’s retail. I started out managing an upscale boutique and that is where I had my second epiphany moment and knew what I needed to do for the rest of my life–I had to style women and help them see how beautiful they can look with their own personal style. Personal Styling is not as simple as pulling clothes from a rack that are new and trendy, It’s learning to listen to the needs of my clients and showing them which clothing can best explain how they feel. When done right, a person is ecstatic about life, feels refreshed and beautiful with their enhanced style. Dressing stylish is not about buying trendy designer clothing, its about what fashions work for your body type and the understanding of my client's needs so I can help them, through fashion, feel strong, beautiful, empowered and confident in their everyday lives.
